Who is Eligible?

To qualify, you must have at least six months of full-time (or equivalent part-time) work experience in one of these occupations within the last three years, and meet the eligibility criteria for one of Canada’s Express Entry-managed immigration programs. Permanent & Temporary

Residency Pathway

Canada’s new education category under Express Entry offers a direct route to permanent residency for eligible teachers and education professionals. If you meet the work experience and program requirements, you may receive an invitation to apply for permanent residency through a category-based draw. Permanent residency allows you to live and work in Canada indefinitely, access public healthcare and social benefits, and eventually apply for Canadian citizenship.

  • CISVA can support qualified candidates in obtaining a temporary work permit, allowing you to teach while you gain the necessary Canadian work experience to later apply for permanent residency.

  • For younger applicants from eligible countries, the IEC program offers temporary work permits, providing valuable Canadian experience

  • If you have already applied for permanent residency and are awaiting a decision, you may be eligible for a bridging open work permit to continue working legally in Canada.

Application

Apply to CISVA

ISubmit your application to CISVA for teaching positions at the elementary or secondary level. Applications are accepted year-round for all grade levels (K-12). Both Catholic and non-Catholic educators, new graduates, and experienced teachers are encouraged to apply.
Required documents include proof of eligibility to work in Canada, teaching credentials, references, and, for Catholic applicants, a pastoral reference.

Certification

To teach in British Columbia, you must obtain a teaching certificate from the Teacher Regulation Branch, demonstrating your academic qualifications and teaching experience.
